"The Emeritus Group, Inc." takes one of its meanings from the founder's previous position: President and Chair Emeritus of Harper Associates (a healthcare and food service executive recruiting firm) where Mike O'Brien served 25 years.  The second meaning is found in the "natures" of the nine exceptional presidents of personnel firms who were developed by this firm.

Mike had the unique honor of leading the "first Michigan search firm to charge a search fee to a Michigan hospital" back in 1970; the position filled was that of "Nursing Director for Detroit Osteopathic Hospital".
